How to Define, Moisturize & Soften Natural Hair

I Prefer Wigs

For the past two months I’ve been protective styling and giving my hair a nice little break. In my opinion protective styling is a very important part of the natural hair journey and should never be underestimated. It does help with keeping healthy hair and retaining length. Styles that use weaves , wigs and other popular methods aren’t as necessary for protective styling as many believe. Anything that protects your ends ( the oldest & most fragile part of the hair) can be considered a protective style like two strand twists or rolling and pinning. However, I personally prefer to wear wigs.

Wigs allow me the freedom to keep up a hair care routine that keeps my hair soft and moisturized. But, I have to admit telling people it’s a wig is still awkward. Although, wigs themselves aren’t a new thing it’s still very fresh for the average young woman to prefer wigs to weaves. So, if you ever want to know what kind of hair I’m rocking and it’s not a super coily fro, just assume it’s a wig. My wigs are not virgin Malaysian bundles and most of the time not even human hair. I know that’s blasphemous to say these days when weave seems to be a top five necessity right after food and water.

Dealing With Dry Shrinkage

In between protective styling there MUST be a break. I have to allow my hair to completely go back to it’s natural state. I even try to limit any stretching  if I plan on getting braids or anything that will require a lot of stress on my follicles. Apart of having 4c hair is dealing with dryness and about 75% shrinkage. This makes it very hard to refrain from stretching. It also makes it very important to keep my hair on point (at least in public). That matted homeless look ain’t poppin’ so finding the right products has been a blessing.

I already shared how I get my coils to pop in a past vlog. I’ll repost the video below. I just wanted to share with you how I get my hair to stay coily while eliminating the hardness that comes with using Gorilla Snot(one of my go to products).

Soften Natural Hair w/ Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier

This is my new favorite hair product. Below you will see my top three for wash and go’s.  I have no cons to share about this product. It smells amazing and not only softens my hair but, my hair stays soft even when it’s dry.

After using Gorilla Snot my coils are always super shiny and poppin’. Problem is it’s quite stiff and that’s no bueno. My coils basically become white boy with spiked hair frozen. With this mist modifier I get the softness back without losing the definition I achieved with the gel. To make it even better I got it on sale for $1.00 at Wal Mart. Sadly that deal is no longer valid and I completely regret not clearing off the entire shelf. I recommenced that everyone try this product and I hope your results are as dope as mine.

All you need to do is ..

  1. Wash your hair
  2. Apply leave in
  3. Use a generous amount of Gorilla Snot
  4. Spray on Taliah Waajid Mist Bodifier ( I prefer to use this after hair is completely dry)

This product can also be used on its own!
